l) A letter
Dear friend,
I am sorry I (to wait) so long before answering your letter. I (not to forget) my promise to send you a line to tell you about how we (to spend) our holidays, but purposely (to postpone) replying in order to be able to give you more news. In the first place, we (to feel) quite fit; but the shocking weather here in no way (to contribute) to that. Now and again it (to rain) cats and dogs ever since we (to get) here; it hardly (to leave off) raining the whole time. During a bright interval between the showers Henry and I (to decide) to run the risk of getting drenched and (to go) for a walk. Charles (to say) he (to catch) us up if the rain (to keep off), his opinion being that the brightness (not to last) long. We (to be) very glad to have this opportunity of taking a little exercise; but it (to turn out) that Charles (to be) a true prophet, for we (not to walk) for more than ten minutes before there (to be) another downpour and we (to have) to take shelter for a long time.
I (to be) afraid a holiday of this kind (not to be) likely to set us up for the coming winter, but I (to suppose) people must smile and bear it even when they come up against such experience as we (to have).
Yours sincerely
Walter.
