Я написал свой первый рассказ и отнес в самый популяр­ный литературный журнал. Когда я вышел из редакции в скверик, душа моя была полна радости.

Как и всякий в подобном состоянии, я мечтал о славе.

— Писатель! — раздалось за спиной.

— Писатель...— послышалось у самого уха. Кто-то тронул меня за рукав.

Невысокий лысоватый незнакомец в лоснящемся костю­ме ласково заглянул мне в лицо бледно-голубыми гла­зами.

— Все вы одинаковы,—вздохнул он.—Погружены...в себя, в таинственные глубины подсознательного... Благо­родная профессия.
