Exercise 4. Use the correct form of the verb to be.

Exercise 5. Translate the sentences into English.

Exercise 6. Compare the following pictures using there is / there are. Make affirmative and negative sentences.

Exercise 7. Find the Russian equivalents to the following proverbs.

1. There is a black sheep in every flock. 2. There is many a slip between the cup and the lip. 3. There is no place like home. 4. There is no rose without a thorn. 5. There is no smoke without fire. 6. There is nothing new under the sun. 7. There is a will there is a way.

 

Exercise 8. Limericks are humorous poems. They begin by introducing a person and a place. They rhyme AABBAA, and have a strong rhythm. Practice saying the limericks. Remember to keep to the strong rhythm.

Exercise 9. This Limerick has no rhymes. Supply, instead of fork, and quick, words that rhyme with Danoon [d∆nu:n], and instead of flesh a word that rhymes with eat.
