TRAVELLING

Traveling is an activity that can be enjoyed by anyone. It can bring a new sense of life into a person and give you a completely new view on the world.

The most common reasons why people travel are to get away from their current situations and locations, to enjoy new experiences, learn new languages, try new food, and get acquainted with new cultures.

Another important reason for travelling is the search of a new job. Some people travel to the major cities to pursue their dream jobs.

Some people travel to experience different seasons. Spending a few weeks of winter in a summer destination has also been gaining popularity.

People travel to challenge themselves and to find out new things about themselves. Compared to previous decades, people travel more nowadays because the economies are better and the advancements in transportation make it easier to do so. One can choose between going by coach, by train, by plane (by air), by ship (by sea). Each of these means has its advantages and disadvantages.

Travelling by coach is rather convenient and cheap. You can take food with you or buy it at the stops. There are some modern conveniences in the coaches such as toilets and TVs. But sleeping in an armchair can cause problems especially to those who are car-sick.

Travelling by train is also quite popular as it’s not expensive. People can choose between a carriage with sitting places and a carriage with berths (upperand lowerberths).

Traveling by plane is an exciting experience, very convenient for those who are not airsick. Travelling by plane is rather expensive though people can choose between economic class, business class. The price depends on the food served and the number of people around. People can also choose an aisle seat or a window seat if they are available. Keep in mind that you may suffer from jet lag (feel tired and slightly confused after a long journey by aeroplane) especially after travelling between places that have a time difference of several hours. Travelling by ship is an unforgettable experience. It’s a great chance to see marvelous seascapes. Besides, the dawns and sunsets in the open ocean are terrific. You may travel by cruisers, yachts and liners fitted up with all modern conveniences and entertainment facilities. The disadvantages are the cost of the ticket, the storms and the sea-sickness.

Types of holidays:

Backpacking is a form of low-cost, independent international travel. It includes the use of a backpack or other luggage that is easily carried for long distances or long periods of time; the use of public transport; inexpensive lodging such as youth hostels.

A package tour or package holiday consists of transport, accommodation and meals organised by a tour operator and sold to a consumer by a travel agent. Other services may be provided like a rental car, activities or outings during the holiday. Transport can be via charter airline to a foreign country.

Activity Holidays are chosen by active people who love skiing, scuba diving, hiking etc..

Cultural Holidays are popular with those who want to see monuments, churches, museums and other sights.
