The number of pixels displayed per unit of printed length in an image, usually measured in pixels per inch (ppi). In Photoshop, you can change the resolution of an image; in ImageReady, the resolution of an image is always 72 ppi. This is because the ImageReady application is tailored to creating images for online media, not print media. In Photoshop, image resolution and pixel dimensions are interdependent. The amount of detail in an image depends on its pixel dimensions, while the image resolution controls how much space the pixels are printed over. For example, you can modify an image's resolution without changing the actual pixel data in the image — all you change is the printed size of the image. However, if you want to maintain the same output dimensions, changing the image's resolution requires a change in the total number of pixels. When printed, an image with a high resolution contains more, and therefore smaller, pixels than an image with a low resolution. For example, a 1-by-1-inch image with a resolution of 72 ppi contains a total of 5184 pixels (72 pixels wide x 72 pixels high = 5184). The same 1-by-1-inch image with a resolution of 300 ppi contains a total of 90,000 pixels. Higher-resolution images usually reproduce more detail and subtler color transitions than lower-resolution images. However, increasing the resolution of a low-resolution image only spreads the original pixel information across a greater number of pixels; it rarely improves image quality.

Both foreign and domesticinvestors have responded with buy orders. In the past five days alone, the Shanghai composite has risen more than 5 per cent, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng China Enterprises index - better known as the H-share market - is up almost 10 per cent. Over the past month in Asia, only Australia's surgingequity market has performed better.

The new-found confidence in the region's biggest growth engine has been most evident in the banking sector. ICBC, one of China's big four state-backed banks, has led the pack, soaring by a quarter since the end of June, while Bank of China has gained a fifth. Even small and medium-size lenders - those at the heart of worries at the start of the summer - have seen renewed interest. China Minsheng, seen by many as the most exposed to the country's shadow banking system, is up almost 20 per cent in the past four weeks alone.

"The banking sector is very vulnerable to a growth slowdown," says Mr Hui. "As soon as we start to see stabilizing in the economy... that gives people some comfort that the potential deterioration in credit quality is not going to be aggressive. "

One of the pieces of information you’ll need to disclose to the government during your trademarkapplication process is whether or not you’re currently selling your products or services. If you haven’t begun selling your products or services (cannot prove Use in Commerce) you’ll have to file your trademark application as an “ intent to use” application.

“Intent to use” trademark applications exist to ensure that people don’t sit on trademarks as people do with web domains, buying up popular or common names and then selling them at a premium. This is because an “intent to use” application cannot mature into a trademark registration without the applicantfilingproof that actual goods and/or services are being offered. For example, let’s say you were starting a corporate landscaping business in Washington, DC and wanted to call it Presidential Landscaping to play off the political theme of the district. The fact that the US Government requires actually “use” of a trademark prior to issuing a trademark registration prevents a company or individual from anticipating that political themes would be popular in Washington, DC and therefore registering words like “Presidential” with a generic word from each class (e.g. Presidential Shirts; Presidential Flowers; Presidential Spice).
