I go onto websites about sport. I’m into skateboarding, so I go onto skate­boarding websites. I watch a lot of skateboarding videos on YouTube. I go on things like My Space, where I can talk to friends from school. If I’m doing school work, I use Google and Wikipedia, which can be really useful.

I use the Net mainly for Facebook. You post a photo and a profile of yourself. You can say what you want — biography, hobbies, interests, music, films. You J control who can see your profile. Other people search for friends, people who share common interests. When you identify someone on the site you’d like to meet, you can ask to become a friend.

I use Internet banking. It's good because I can get my balance any time of day or night, I can transfer money instantly. So I like paying bills online. I just log onto my bank and click on ’Pay Now’, and the bill is paid immediately. I also book restaurants, cinema tickets, holidays this way. It's easy and suits me.

I don't like reading onscreen, and I don't like watching DVDs, either, but I do, use the Net for three things. I email a lot with Hotmail. I get the news every day on The Guardian website. And I also check the weather every day. I get up In the morning and get a weather forecast for my town for early morning, mid-morning, and early afternoon, and evening. Then, and only then, I get dressed.

Computers have changed the lives of everyone. A few decades ago, people did not even know anything about these electronic devices, whereas nowadays even a small child can operate this machine. Almost all modern technology depends on the computers that are used to store data files, classified information, banking and more.

Computers of various types and sizes are used in modern society. Interestingly, the first computer was the size of a minivan and weighing nearly a ton. While today it may be a small chip the size of a pin. And computer technology does not stand still, they are rapidly progressing.

Perhaps the next generation of computers will be able to talk and think like people. Many people believe computers dangerous and time consuming. On the other hand, computers are very fast, and rarely mistaken. They save a lot of time, and also all the necessary information can be found on the Internet. So, instead of having to go to libraries and other institutions, we can just go on the web.

Another advantage is the ability to instantly send emails, while some time ago, we had to wait weeks or months to be delivered. In addition, with the help of computers and internet, shopping has become much easier. First, we can find what we do want, and secondly, you can choose a reasonable price, and, thirdly, we can deliver the selected product.

In the end, the computer has become the most useful tool in the house every now and they certainly have changed our lives for the better.

In Russia, more and more people are using the Internet year on year. The number of users is growing on average from 30% to 40% a year. At the moment over 59 million people in Russia use the Internet. Together they account for over 51% percent of all visits to Russian pages on the Web.

For millions of people of different professions the Internet has become a perfect tool in their job and universal means of entertainment in leisure time. In that light, modern software systems are necessary to effectively deal with the issues related to user search of necessary information on the Web. Information resources available on the Internet are enormous. These include tens of millions of documents available in different ways, the number of which is increasing.

Special search engines have been developed to search for information on the Internet. A search engine is a combination of software and hardware systems designed for surfing the Internet and responding to user request, made as a text phrase (search query), in the form of links to sources of information, in order of relevance (according to the request).

Когда ты заканчиваешь школу, то осознаешь, что пришло время выбирать себе профессию на будущее. Очень нелегко решить, какую профессию выбрать. Я давно знал, что окончание школы станет началом моей самостоятельной жизни, началом более серьезных испытаний моих способностей и характера.
Я интересуюсь программированием и хочу стать программистом. Я имею компьютер дома и могу часами работать за ним. Это совершенно новый мир. Компьютеры значительно упрощают нашу повседневную жизнь. На компьютере гораздо легче выполнять определенные задачи. За считанные секунды он решает такие задачи, для решения которых целым поколениям математиков нужно было бы потратить месяцы или годы.
Я думаю, что профессия программиста предоставит мне немало возможностей. Компьютеры являются сферой современной технологии, что меняется быстрее. Мы живем в век информации. Сегодня, даже трудно сказать, какое применение будут иметь компьютеры в будущем.

Компьютеры изменили жизнь каждого человека. Несколько десятилетий назад люди даже не знали ничего об этих электронных устройствах, тогда как в наши дни даже маленький ребенок может управлять этой машиной. Почти все современные технологии зависит от компьютеров, которые используются для хранения данных: файлов, секретной информации, банковских операций и прочего.

Компьютеры различных типов и размеров используются в современном обществе. Интересно, что первый компьютер был размером с микроавтобус и весил почти тонну. В то время как сейчас это может быть маленький чип размером с булавку. И компьютерные технологии не стоят на месте, они быстро прогрессируют.

Возможно, следующее поколение компьютеров будет иметь возможность говорить и думать также как люди. Многие люди считают компьютеры опасными и затратными по времени. С другой стороны, компьютеры очень быстрые, и редко ошибаются. Они экономят много времени, и к тому же всю необходимую информацию можно найти в Интернете. Таким образом, вместо того, чтобы идти в библиотеки и другие учреждения, мы можем просто путешествовать по всемирной сети.

Еще одним преимуществом является возможность мгновенно отправлять письма, в то время как некоторое время назад мы должны были ждать неделями и месяцами, чтобы их доставили. Кроме того, с помощью компьютеров и Интернета, делать покупки стало намного легче. Во-первых, мы можем найти то, что мы точно хотим, во-вторых, можно выбрать приемлемую цену, и, в-третьих, нам могут доставить выбранный товар.

Для миллионов людей разных профессий Интернет стал необходимым инструментом в работе и универсальным средством развлечения в часы досуга. В связи с этим возникает потребность в программных средствах, эффективно решающих проблемы поиска необходимой пользователю сети Интернет информации. Информационные ресурсы, доступные через Интернет, огромны. Это десятки миллионов документов, представленных различными способами, число которых постоянно увеличивается.

Для поиска информации в Интернет разработаны специальные информационно-поисковые системы. Поисковая система - это программно-аппаратный комплекс, предназначенный для осуществления поиска в сети Интернет и реагирующий на запрос пользователя, задаваемый в виде текстовой фразы (поискового запроса), выдачей списка ссылок на источники информации, в порядке релевантности (в соответствии запросу).

Ответ 1. Наиболее крупные международные поисковые системы: «Google», «Yahoo», «MSN». В русском Интернете это – «Яндекс», «Рамблер», «Апорт».

Первоочередная задача любой поисковой системы – доставлять людям именно ту информацию, которую они ищут. А научить пользователей делать «правильные» запросы к системе, т.е. запросы, соответствующие принципам работы поисковых систем, невозможно. Поэтому разработчики создают такие алгоритмы и принципы работы поисковых систем, которые бы позволяли находить пользователям искомую ими информацию.

Это означает, поисковая система должна «думать» так же, как думает пользователь при поиске информации. Когда пользователь обращается с запросом к поисковой машине, он хочет найти то, что ему нужно, максимально быстро и просто.

Ответ 2. Получая результат, он оценивает работу системы, руководствуясь несколькими основными параметрами. Нашел ли он то, что искал? Если не нашел, то сколько раз ему пришлось перефразировать запрос, чтобы найти искомое? Насколько актуальную информацию он смог найти? Насколько быстро обрабатывала запрос поисковая машина? Насколько удобно были представлены результаты поиска?

Для того, чтобы удовлетворить ответами все эти вопросы, разработчики поисковых машин постоянно совершенствуют алгоритмы и принципы поиска, добавляют новые функции и возможности, всячески пытаются ускорить работу системы.

• Полнота

Полнота - одна из основных характеристик поисковой системы, представляющая собой отношение количества найденных по запросу документов к общему числу документов в сети Интернет, удовлетворяющих данному запросу.

Ответ 3. К примеру, если в Интернете имеется 100 страниц, содержащих словосочетание «как выбрать автомобиль», а по соответствующему запросу было найдено всего 60 из них, то полнота поиска будет 0,6.

• Точность

Точность - еще одна основная характеристика поисковой машины, которая определяется степенью соответствия найденных документов запросу пользователя.

Ответ 4. Например, если по запросу «как выбрать автомобиль» находится 100 документов, в 50 из них содержится словосочетание «как выбрать автомобиль», а в остальных просто наличествуют эти слова («как правильно выбрать магнитолу и установить в автомобиль»), то точность поиска считается равной 50/100 (=0,5).

• Актуальность

Актуальность - не менее важная составляющая поиска, которая характеризуется временем, проходящим с момента публикации документов в сети Интернет, до занесения их в индексную базу поисковой системы. Например, на следующий день после появления интересной новости, большое количество пользователей обратились к поисковым системам с соответствующими запросами.

• Скорость поиска

Скорость поиска тесно связана с его устойчивостью к нагрузкам. Например, по данным ООО «Рамблер Интернет Холдинг», на сегодняшний день в рабочие часы к поисковой машине Рамблер приходит около 60 запросов в секунду. Такая загруженность требует сокращения времени обработки отдельного запроса. Здесь интересы пользователя и поисковой системы совпадают: посетитель желает получить результаты как можно быстрее, а поисковая машина должна отрабатывать запрос максимально оперативно, чтобы не тормозить вычисление следующих запросов.

• Наглядность

Наглядность представления результатов является важным компонентом удобного поиска. По большинству запросов поисковая машина находит сотни, а то и тысячи документов. Вследствие нечеткости составления запросов или неточности поиска, даже первые страницы выдачи не всегда содержат только нужную информацию.

Она также используется в милицейских школах. Ученики в школах могут изучать великую пирамиду или молекулы изнутри. Основатели виртуальной реальности говорят, что у нее мощный потенциал.
