Work with Vocabulary of Unit 1

Many words have related words of the same root, often belonging to other parts of speech. In Unit 1, we mostly studied only one or two members of the family for each vocabulary unit. Below is the table with the target vocabulary from this unit. Using Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries (https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com), fill in all possible columns with some missing derivatives and related words. Sometimes there may be more than one word of the same part of speech. You might not be able to enter all of them – enter those, which you consider to be the most important ones.

Pay attention to the fact that one and the same word, without changing its form, may belong to more than one part of speech (this type of word-formation is called conversion). Example: work, n. – to work, v.

Also, pay attention to prefixes. Many words may have prefixes, which you can remove and find the original word behind: en rich – rich. However, do not be deceived: in some cases (“enhance”), the prefix has so fully merged with the root (in this particular case it did so as early as in Latin, wherefrom this word comes), that it cannot be divided from it any longer. Check every case using the dictionary.
