Рассматриваются вопросы понятия практических пособий для детей дошкольного возраста, классификации изданий и особенностей редакционно-издательской подготовки. Также рассматриваются основные составляющие концепции: читательский адрес (психовозрастные особенности дошкольников), функциональное назначение (виды практики ребенка) и характер информации.

The main idea of the article is to present the project of the English-Russian Political Metaphor Glossary, which includes political metaphors that are used in political mass media communication, in particular, in political news. The glossary classifies political metaphors in accordance with the source of metaphorical meaning and provides explanation with examples of such expressions with transferred meaning.

Eroticism in Joseph Brodsky’s English poetry: linguistic peculiarities and translation difficulties

The article focuses on two unpublished English verses written by Joseph Brodsky (1975, 1996). The paper examines semantical and stylistic features of the vocabulary that contain sexual innuendoes and erotic meaning. It considers both the original and the target language by the example of the interlinear translations provided by the author of the article.

Zoomorphic images of Siberia in contemporary English literature: Tom Clancy’s “The Bear and The Dragon” (2000)

Today’s postcolonial studies bring about attention to the notion of locus in imagined geography and its relation with the concepts of “our” and “other” as crucial features of postmodern text. The analysis of the Siberian image figures out the main English-speaking countries' attitude toward the region. Having done frontal analysis of English contemporary novels, one may notice a tendency to zoomorphic insertions. Being emotional-value words, they are able to contain national and cultural peculiarities and significant information about a person that could bring to light the dynamics of national linguistic worldimage development. As zoomorphic images are the essential part of Siberian image formation in terms of English literature, it is necessary to analyze how the English-speaking audience estimate the region and its place in the mental map of other foreign culture. Here is attributed the zoomorphic elements found in a political thriller novel by Tom Clancy “The Bear and The Dragon”, where we observe the traditional animal images of Russia and China. The story develops on the basis of the locus of Siberia in the period of 1960s. A special zoomorphic code of an imagined territory is made up of dears and wolves images.

The tour guide manipulates the excursionist’s attention: evidence from the eye tracker study

The nature of excursion communication was studied extensively (Bahvalova, 2010; Demidov, 2008) during the last 20 years, but the interplay between participants during the tour has never been studied experimentally. During the tour, the guide uses special markers that are meant to manipulate the visitor’s attention and thereafter facilitate the apprehension of information (e.g. “look there”). We hypothesized that the time needed for addressee to fix on the object of interest (RT) varies as a function of the marker category. 10 students (Age, M = 18.1, SD = 1.1; 6 females) from Tomsk State University were recruited for participation in the experiment. Participants were invited to visit a museum and listen to an excursion with the head-mounted eye tracker on. Categories were specified according to the presence/absence of a specific component. RT counting started from the guide’s gesture. The speech markers of a guide showed distinct semantic categories: locative, visual-locative, nominative, and indicatory-locative. Welch ANOVA showed that there was a significant effect of the marker category on RT [F(3, 192) = 7.69, p <.001]. Post hoc comparisons using the Games-Howell test indicated that the mean score for nominative category (M = 1155, SD = 608) was significantly bigger than locative and indicatory-locative ones (M=812, SD=325; M=804, SD=468 respectively). Visual-locative didn’t differ significantly from any other group (M=1183, SD=829) The data provides yet another evidence of the tour guide manipulating the oculomotor activity of the addressee. Moreover, the RT was associated with the type of the marker, with the biggest RT for nominative one.

On the reflection of modernist amoralism in Flann O'Brien's At Swim-Two-Birds

Flann OBrien (1911- 1966) is largely marginalized figure in Irish literature whose position in the context of global literary tendencies is re-evaluated by the literary criticism only in the course of the last decade. Purpose of the article is to evaluate, in what manner does his most praised novel At Swim-Two-Birds reacts to the so called "psyche of modernism" and "loss of Christian moral values" from the Catholic and conservative standpoint, in order to enrich the discourse about his poetics. Emphasis will be put on the analysis of the character of Sweeney and the set of values he represents, eqally as on the biblical allusions and religious symbolism.

«Над кукушкиным гнездом» К. Кизи и «Моби Дик, или Белый Кит» Г. Мелвилла в своем соотношении

Роман «Моби Дик, или Белый Кит» (1851) Германа Мелвилла – итоговое произведение американского романтизма и краеугольный камень онтологического реализма – один из величайших текстов мировой литературы и, пожалуй, величайший роман литературы США, влияние которого выявляется в самых, казалось бы, неожиданных творениях. Так, культовый роман «Над кукушкиным гнездом», написанный Кеном Кизи в 1962 г. и представляющий собой подлинно «поведенческий текст» своей эпохи, ибо сущностной его основой является идея о свободе человека от гнета системы, обнаруживает, что аксиология Кизи во многом базируется на теории трансцендентализма; поэтому при сопоставлении «Над кукушкиным гнездом» с «Моби Диком» Мелвилла как одним из самых репрезентативных творений трансцендентального мироощущения можно найти значительные корреляции между двумя произведениями, более того, сравнительный анализ текстов становится ключом к пониманию смысла романа Кизи.
